Beijing Olympic Games welcome WiMAX

4/13/2007, Yokohama, Japan, Mr. Xie,linzhen, vice chairman of China mobile communication association, told the audience in a public discourse that Beijing would build wireless broadband network for 2008 Olympic games. Before 2nd quarter of year 2008, Beijing will set up 9000 WLAN access points in a 275 square kilometer, including 150 WiMAX base stations. The network will cover 90% of the Beijing city. Xie also said ChinaComm (www.cect-chinacomm.com.cn) would be one of the WiMAX services providers. ChinaComm owns 3.5GHz spectrum, they also had a plan to provide this service in another 28 cities of mainland China.
According to ChinaComm, they will focous the WiMAX service on enterprise customers, the service price will be similar to ADSL price rate.
Nortel CTO, John J. Roese who is visting Tsinghua University in Beijing now, said Nortel wanted to be the supplier for this project.
