4/9/2007, In the NGN summit hold in Beijing several days ago, Mr. Wei,leping, CTO of China Telecom urged government to let them enter video services a.s.a.p, as an exchange, he said cabel operators in China can be a new telecom service provider.
According to No.82 Decree of State Council of the People's Republic of China approved in year 1999, Telecom service providers cann't develope video services, and Cable operators cann't have voice services. But after nearly 8 years, convergence has become the center of telecom services, More and more peoples call on a reform on this decree.
Without video services, without mobile services, today's China Telecom faces hugh profit decrease. They are eager to have new 3G licence and to enter video services. But first, they have to bread the barricade set up by No. 82 decree.
Can we see this reform in the short future? Will the cable operators like to be a new telecom service provider? Let us wait...............
