Wei Leping: I am not satisfied with GPON test

4/19/2007, It is turn for Mr. Wei,leping, the most important person in the technology field of Chinese communication industry. In today's China Broadband application forum hold in Beijing, Wei told the audience that he was not satisfied with the test result of GPON and VDSL. He said he hoped there would be better result in the 2nd round test.
So what is wrong with the test? According to Wei, for VDSL, "It is not stable, It cann't support management of both central office side and remote side, it is not fully compatible with ADSL2+ equipments, also, equipments from different suppliers cann't work together well." For GPON, Wei didn't mention.
Maybe the most important thing Wei mentioned today is about what he thought as the real bandwidth request in year 2010. According a survey by China Telecom, the high end broadband application will include HDTV, SDTV, and video communication, so 20Mbps-30Mbps will be a possible bandwidth requet. By now, Wei said he could not imagine further bandwidth request.
That is really interesting then. Several months ago, Wei once said EPON was mature enough, Now, he said he hoped GPON had a good test result. Also, he has a larger interest on VDSL,then, finally which access technology he will choose for China Telecom, let us wait.
