Netcom's broadband strategy for broadband forum

4/18/2007,China Netcom today announnced that they would host the "2007 World Broadband Asia Forum". In the same situation, two high-level managers from China Netcom told public their FTTH and WiMAX strategy for the first time.

According to Mr. Zuo,feng, General Manager of Market operating department of China Netcom groupe, China Netcom is studying advanced broadband access technology including FTTH in Beijing. About WiMAX, China Netcom had made several 802.16d WiMAX trails in Southern China.

Zuo also mentioned, although Netcom has build a advanced backbone and metro network, but in the last mile field, there is still large distance from FTTH. Also, for WiMAX, China Netcom is still waiting for the maturity of 802.16e technology.

I don't think Zuo's words have any real meaning in today's situation. In real life, China Netcom is still working on increase their customer bandwidth from 512K to 2Mbps, also there is not direct incentive like NTT or FT has for a FTTx or WiMAX application.

The forum will be hold from June 5 to June 8 in China Hotel in Beijing.
